The missing miles mystery

Hmph.  My numbers aren't adding up between the five ways I document miles.  The online widgets & logs don't reflect all I've done.  I thought I had been pretty on the ball with blogging each run. I know I've missed a few, but not many.

Things got a little nutty during the summer when I was logging close to 40 miles per week.  [I'll blame my kids.  They were home during the summer, and I don't want to blame this on my laziness. lol]  On top of that, the other four online training logs don't match any of my other logs! TickerFactory is just a ticker reflecting whatever number I type into the number bar (useless for the most part).  The Garmin log isn't accurate since I don't always wear it when I run.  Dailymile is sometimes a pain in my ass so I opt to not always log stuff there.  The 1,000 mile challenge is a google document that's kind of clunky to use. Sigh.

I'm sticking with my paper log.  It is by far the most accurate account of my actions.  I write in it each day with EVERY activity I've done. With much detail. It sits in a binder beside my recliner.  I check it as I sip my morning coffee.  I check back again in the evening.  I immediately log stuff as soon as I return from a run.  To me, there's nothing better than keeping track with paper and pencil!  However, I do like keeping track online with widgets and such.  I need a more solid online training tool.  I'm terrible about not getting around to logging anything online until days after the fact - if at all.  I thought my Droid would be the end to my procrastination, but clearly it wasn't! lol

With that being said, I'd love to hear your favorite online training log / tool!

  1. DailyMile is hard for me too, I love the community, but it's harder for me to get my info in there. I almost wrote a post about it, but man, talk about first world problems :P

I use Runkeeper because I don't have a Garmin, so I use my iphone for gps and tracking and pace and like the Runkeeper program more than any of the ones that interact with DailyMile. With Runkeeper I can also save routes, and since I am generally a creature of habit, even if I walk/run without my phone, I can log the closest route for a pretty close approx of my mileage.

  2. I use Daily Mile to track all my activities {I've never had any problems with it} and I have a spreadsheet that I use to track my "mileage" for running/walking. I *always* wear my Garmin :)

  3. My Garmin flips out when it rains.....and it rains a lot here. I'm afraid I'll break another one if I keep wearing it in the rain. :(

  4. I find paper and pencil to be the most accurate.:) I can log my workouts too and not just running.
